Steve Lippincott
I’m proud to be part of a three-generation family tradition in the marine industry. It all started in the 1960s with my grandfather, who was not only a well-known Star sailor but also built one-design boats like Stars, Comets, and Lightnings. In the 1980s, he transitioned to building cruising yachts, including the Lippincott 30 and Lippincott 36, before retiring.
My dad, Steve Lippincott Sr., carried on the family’s connection to the water. After serving in the Coast Guard, he moved to Florida, worked for a few boat brokers, and served as Vice President of Cruising World brokerage and marina in the 1980s. Around the mid-1980s, he started Lippincott Marine Canvas, a business that he ran with dedication until retiring in 2010.
I joined my dad in the business right after college in 1995 and have been running it for nearly 20 years now. About 15 years ago, I expanded the company to include a custom metal fabrication division, where we build arches, davits, and other custom metal parts for boats. It’s been incredibly rewarding to grow the business while continuing to uphold the craftsmanship and quality that my family is known for.
Sailing has always been a huge part of my life. I grew up racing Optimists and had the chance to travel to some amazing places for regattas. I sailed for the College of Charleston, which was an unforgettable experience.
These days, life and family have taken priority, but I’ve stayed connected to the sport. My wife, who sailed for USF, served as the captain of the Luffing Lassies in Sarasota, FL 2024-2025. Together, we’ve cruised with our kids around Florida, the USVIs, and the BVIs, creating memories that I’ll always cherish.
For me, it’s all about honoring the legacy of my family while continuing to innovate and grow in the marine industry. Whether it’s building custom parts, creating canvas solutions, or simply enjoying time on the water, I’m grateful for the chance to do what I love every day.
